The Discmania community is one unlike any other in disc golf. Your continued support has helped us grow this company from a spare room in a warehouse to an international power pushing the evolution of disc golf. Internally, we’re more than a team. We’re a family. You are a part of that family too. All of this is possible because of you.
One of the things that we believe in as a company and a family is communication. We wanted to take this opportunity to address the recent Mystery Box release.
This year’s spring Mystery Box turned out to be one of the hardest to purchase. Minutes, if not seconds, after they were released on the store in the United States and in Europe, they were sold out. While many were able to walk away with your desired purchase, many were also left frustrated and disappointed that they missed out on the release.
We understand the frustration and are working on a number of solutions to keep the Mystery Box the gem that it is while also making sure we’re holding up our end of the deal as well.
Planning the Mystery Box
When putting together this most recent Mystery Box we doubled the quantity of boxes from last winter. We knew there was an increased demand and felt that we prepared enough to reach that demand. Needless to say we underestimated you.
Our plans for the Mystery Box begin at minimum six months before they are released. At times, the plans are put in place an entire year before the release date. These are the lead times that we need to produce the number of discs for each Mystery Box and work with our manufacturing partners to ensure we have the proper quantity in place.
We had to make changes due to unexpected events even weeks before a Mystery Box release. That doesn’t even factor in everything that could take place in the months leading up to a release.
The planning for this Mystery Box all took place before there would be a global pandemic that slowed down our operations and manufacturing options. The supply chain was hit from all angles.
It’s easy to say that we should now increase manufacturing by 10 times what they are now with an easy to produce disc and run with it. That isn’t what we’re about though. The Mystery Box isn’t just thrown together. We want each release to be special and meaningful.
We’re going to keep the spirit of the Mystery Box in tact, but also make the proper adjustments so headaches like this will be avoided in the future.
Let’s Talk
Moments after the Mystery Box is sold out we are flooded with messages and emails. Frustration in moments like these is understandable. We understand the emotions. You aren’t wrong in how you feel.
It doesn’t matter the tone of the message or the questions that you are asking, we will always reply to you. We will always talk with you. Even as messages begin with clenched fists, choice words, and a short fuse, we’ll always greet you with a warm welcome and respectful, professional interaction. There will never come a time when we don’t want to hear from you.
If you missed out on a box and you aren’t happy, we understand. Heck, we’re not happy either. Reach out, let’s chat, but let’s do it as adults who can have a conversation and talk through things.
We’re not perfect. We will make mistakes, but we will always be respectful.
Despite appearances, our company and staff is much smaller than most realize. Our team may be small, but it’s extremely dedicated. Each and every one of us gives more than you could think to making this company a true success. Odds are, if you reach out multiple times, you’re going to talk to the same person each and every time.
Thank You
To each and every one of you, thank you. Thank you for being there to listen, learn, and grow with us. You are the fuel we need to ignite this machine. These last few months have been an opportunity for us to grow as a business and learn from ourselves. This last Mystery Box release was not our brightest hour, but it’s moments like these that help us turn this around in the future.
Stick with us. As we said, we’ve been planning nearly twelve months in advance and can’t wait to show you what we have in the works.
You deserve the best. We’re not there yet, but we won’t stop until we are.
