Eagle McMahon Wins 2018 National Tour Elite Series; Third at HOFC

Tour / Promotions

The final PDGA National Tour stop fo the year had a little added significance for Team Discmania’s Eagle McMahon.

After picking up wins at the first three of the first four National Tour stops of the year (Las Vegas Classic, Glass Blown Open, and Beaver State Fling) and strong finishes at Masters Cup and the Delaware Disc Golf Challenge, McMahon found himself on top of the Points Standings with just this weekend’s Hall of Fame Classic remaining.

In order, McMahon finished in first, first, fifth, first, and third on the National Tour events this year.

For McMahon, and any competitor who competed in all five of the aforementioned events, the lowest points total would be dropped from consideration before adding the results of the final event of the year. This allowed McMahon to drop the points he received from his fifth place finish at this year’s Masters Cup.

Coming into this weekend, McMahon held a 12 point advantage over Ricky Wysocki and a 57.5 point advantage over Paul McBeth.

After the three-round Hall of Fame Classic in Appling, Georgia, McMahon’s third-place tie was enough to secure another top-five finish, but more importantly, he claimed his first National Tour Elite Series championship.

The win comes with an additional $6,000 payout for McMahon.

McMahon Ties for Third to Close PDGA National Tour

McMahon played about the most consistent disc golf you could find this weekend. Over 54 holes, McMahon 23 birdies and only one bogey.

On the tightly wooded W.R. Jackson Disc Golf Course, McMahon had to fight out of some tough spots at times, but played a very smooth game from start to finish.

With round scores of 61, 62, and 59, McMahon showed he was recovered from last week’s USDGC and was in the groove from the start.

He found himself on the lead card going into the second round and on the chase card to close out the event. In the end, McMahon finished six strokes behind Paul McBeth.
