Prior to the start of the 2018 PDGA Junior World Championships, the Junior Divisional Doubles tournament took place at Peter Pan Park in Emporia, Kansas. Team Discmania’s Silas Schultz teamed up with his brother, Simeon, for the two-round event and took down the win on the final hole.
The first round was played in a modified-best-shot format. The Schultz brothers shot the hot round to start the tournament and held a three-shot lead with 18-holes remaining.
“We did not play as good the second round because of the alternate shot layout we were playing, Silas said after the event.
Silas says they were one shot down going into the last hole, “Simeon’s shot put me within 25 feet. The other team missed their 40-footer for the win and splashed out the come back putt. Then I made my putt for the win.”
Silas says that playing with his brother gave them an advantage, “We knew each other’s bags and skill sets and were able to make decisions as a team based on that knowledge of each other games.
As the Schultz brothers continue to compete at this year’s Junior World Championships in the individual event, Silas says this win can only help moving forward, “It was a great test run for the tournament just to see you were my game was at and get some confidence without having to be stressed.”
Congrats to Silas and Simeon Schultz on their PDGA Junior Doubles World Championship!
